WWE, the world’s largest professional wrestling company, recently announced that it is laying off a large number of wrestlers. This comes after WWE merged with UFC, the world’s largest mixed martial arts company, to form TKO Group Holdings.
One of the wrestlers who was released is Dolph Ziggler, who had been with WWE for nearly 20 years and had won numerous championships. Another wrestler who was released is Mustafa Ali, who was scheduled to compete for the NXT North American Championship at the end of this month.
Wrestling journalist Brian Alvarez, who specializes in professional wrestling, confirmed that a group of NXT wrestlers would be laid off today. The laid-off wrestlers expressed their shock and sadness on social media, such as Shelton Benjamin, Rick Boggs, Aaliyah, Elias, Riddick Moss, Top Dolla, Emma, and Tegan Nox.
This move comes in the context of major changes taking place in WWE after signing a huge contract with NBCUniversal to broadcast SmackDown for 5 years on USA Network starting in October 2024 for $1.4 billion.
