Bayern Captain Thomas Müller Emphasizes Pressure on Borussia Dortmund Ahead of Decisive Bundesliga Matchday
Bayern Munich captain Thomas Müller highlighted that the pressure in the title race is primarily on the players of Borussia Dortmund ahead of the decisive Bundesliga matchday. The focus of the record-holding champions is on “winning our game,” said the 33-year-old in a video on Instagram. “The rest is in the hands of the football gods, I would say. Or, of course, it also depends on how well BVB handles the pressure.”
Müller mentioned that he had read “the whole city” of Dortmund, with an expected 200,000 to 400,000 fans, would be present at a BVB championship celebration. “Meeting the expectations of so many people, you have to manage that with a broad back on the field,” he said. The players must “withstand that pressure.”
“Stay humble, take what we get”
Bayern enters their match on Saturday against 1. FC Köln with a two-point deficit behind BVB. Dortmund will be playing against FSV Mainz, with all matches kicking off at 3:30 pm (Sky). “I do believe that the players will feel this pressure,” Müller said about the BVB professionals. “That’s where my hope lies, because it would be the most normal thing in the world for them to feel this pressure.”
For him and his team, the principle is: “Stay humble, do our job, and take what we get.” The national team player wished the fans “exciting games.” A close championship decision is “what everyone always wants, those who are not fans of FC Bayern,” said Müller. “So enjoy it now.”
