Renowned movie star Johnny Depp is elated as he marks his 60th birthday on Friday, June 9, 2023. The actor has expressed his joy in finally moving on from the personal drama of his high-profile legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard.
A source close to Depp spoke to PEOPLE, revealing that he has been able to concentrate on various aspects of his life that had previously been neglected due to the legal turmoil surrounding the Amber trial. “In the last year, he’s been able to touch all these different parts of his life that he hadn’t been able to do that much before,” the insider shared. “It’s nice for him to be an artist first and foremost.”
In recent months, Depp has made a conscious effort to distance himself from Hollywood, following his legal battles. At a press conference during the Cannes Film Festival, he declared, “Do I feel boycotted now? No, not at all. But I don’t feel boycotted by Hollywood because I don’t think about it. I don’t think about Hollywood. I don’t have much further need for Hollywood myself.”
Camille Vasquez, who represented Depp during his 2022 legal trial, disclosed that she and the actor remain in contact. Vasquez, who gained notoriety during the defamation trial in Virginia, told PEOPLE in May, “The last time I spoke to him on the phone was probably a few months ago, but we text often.”
Vasquez also noted that Depp has experienced considerable success over the past year, following his victory in the case against his ex-wife. “There’s a group of us that texts with him and we send emails, obviously congratulating him on the success that he’s had in the last year. He has a big birthday coming up, so I’m sure he’ll be celebrating,” she said.
