August Weather Improvement Despite High Temperatures and Humidity

According to Manar Ghanem a member of the Media Center of the Meteorological Authority the reason behind the improved weather conditions in August despite it being known for its high temperatures and humidity is the different atmospheric pressure distributions.

The most significant one is the upper atmospheric low-pressure system which distributes moisture throughout the air column. Additionally the activity of winds reduces the perceived humidity levels, and this is expected to continue until the end of August as temperatures start to decrease with the approach of autumn.

As the autumn season approaches both monthly averages and temperatures start to decrease along with humidity levels due to the fluctuation of weather conditions caused by the presence of the Indian monsoon low and the mid-latitude high.

The meteorological authority member emphasized that complete stability and improvement in weather conditions and temperatures are prevailing in the upcoming period as the region is influenced by air masses coming from Southern Europe through the Mediterranean Sea.

She continued “The air masses coming from Southern Europe have significantly moderate temperatures leading to an improvement in temperature values, which are currently below their normal levels. In the coming days until midweek maximum temperatures in Greater Cairo will be around 33 degrees Celsius with a perceived temperature of 35 degrees Celsius due to humidity levels in the atmosphere.”

Ghanem also highlighted the presence of an extension of an upper atmospheric low-pressure system that leads to the formation of low clouds during the early morning, contributing to a milder atmosphere.

During the daytime especially at noon the northern regions, including Greater Cairo experience high temperatures while the southern regions in both the north and south of Upper Egypt and southern Sinai endure extreme heat. Temperatures decrease during the early hours of the night accompanied by wind activity that creates a feeling of temperature drop.
