Authorities have reportedly removed any easily flammable materials, including ammunition or weapons, from the building to prevent further calamity.
Egypt’s Interior Minister, Major General Mahmoud Tawfiq, has been personally overseeing the efforts to contain the fire along with other high-ranking security officials in Ismailia.
An emergency committee comprising security, engineering, and technical experts has been formed to investigate the cause of the fire, its rapid spread, and escalation. A detailed report on the incident will be submitted directly to the Interior Minister.
In the wake of this catastrophic event, questions about the readiness of emergency response mechanisms and the safety of critical infrastructure in Egypt are likely to be raised.
