The grim tragedy unfolded at the Faculty of Archaeology, where Dr. Nourhan was found by campus security, her life tragically cut short. Attempts to transport her to the nearest hospital were futile as she succumbed to her injuries.

Contrary to some rumors, the perpetrator had not proposed marriage to Dr. Nourhan in the past, as clarified by her close friend Riham Ghareeb. Instead, Dr. Nourhan had been a key witness in a case involving the assailant’s assault on his boss. Ghareeb further elaborated that Nourhan had dropped charges in a previous case where the assailant had set her car on fire, considering his circumstances.

The father of the deceased, Dr. Hussein Mehran, revealed that the murderer had been stalking his daughter and sending her threatening messages since the past year. He had even burned her car, an act for which he had been imprisoned for four months and fined EGP 100,000.

The police were successful in tracking the perpetrator’s movements until they cornered him at a checkpoint in Alexandria. Displaying signs of distress, he drew his firearm and took his own life, leaving behind a chilling message: “She ruined my life before I could ruin hers. You don’t know what she did to me.”

This dreadful saga illustrates the critical necessity for institutional safeguards and procedures to protect employees from workplace harassment and potential violence. It also serves as a somber reminder of the human cost of failing to adequately address these concerns.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the latent dangers lurking in workplaces, even those as esteemed as educational institutions. As details continue to unfold, calls for better institutional measures to prevent harassment and violence are growing louder, echoing through the halls of Cairo University and beyond.
