OpenAI Announces ChatGPT Expansion to More Countries, Promises More Regions Soon

OpenAI, the artificial intelligence research startup backed by Microsoft, announced on Thursday the expansion of its popular chatbot, ChatGPT, to 11 more countries. The company shared via Twitter that the ChatGPT app for iOS is now available in Albania, Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland, Jamaica, South Korea, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom.

Initially launched for iPhone users in the United States last week, ChatGPT has garnered widespread attention since its general release in November. OpenAI’s goal is to facilitate access to the chatbot, which offers a free iOS app that synchronizes users’ chat history across devices. This ensures seamless syncing between web-based conversations and those on iPhones.

To interact with the chatbot, users simply type their question into a text box at the bottom of the screen, similar to other messaging apps. While questions can be dictated using Apple’s built-in speech recognition feature, OpenAI’s open-source Whisper speech recognition system is also available for voice input.

Upon sending a query, OpenAI processes the request and provides a response. Users can then follow up with more information or ask for a different answer. The app also supports code snippets, enabling users to copy and paste answers as needed.

Subscribers to the premium ChatGPT Plus service enjoy exclusive access to the latest large language model, GPT-4, as well as early access to features and faster response times.

The ChatGPT app for iOS can be downloaded from the App Store. OpenAI has also announced plans to release an Android app soon.
