Social media platform Snapchat has unveiled its new “Dreams” feature, driven by artificial intelligence (AI), which allows users to transform their photos into imaginative scenes.
This novel feature harnesses the power of generative AI models to convert regular user photos into legendary, mythical-like images, users can become anything from “a Renaissance royal figure” to “a mermaid of the deep sea,” according to the company’s official statement.
To access the “Dreams” feature, users need to navigate to the “Memories” section, where a new tab called “Dreams” can be found, by using a few personal selfies, users can create a series of fantastical images using generative AI technology.
Upon its release, users receive the first package of imaginative images for free, comprising eight pictures, afterwards, users have the option to purchase additional image packages for just one dollar.
Notably, there are other applications that leverage AI for image manipulation, such as the “Lensa” app that generates “magical avatar images,” and the renowned app Remini, allowing users to obtain professional-looking photos without the need for costly photoshoot sessions.
The new feature will initially be available to Snapchat users in New Zealand and Australia, with a promise to roll out to users worldwide in the coming weeks.
This new feature complements Snapchat’s array of other AI-powered capabilities, including the personal assistant “My AI.”
