University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill issues all clear after ‘armed and dangerous’ person on campus
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill said it issued an evacuation order Monday afternoon, hours after police responded to “an armed and dangerous individual on or near campus”.
University police advised all students to enter immediately, close windows and doors, and wait until further notice, according to an email.
A witness on campus told that they were locked in their building and saw armed officers searching the campus.

A video from CNN affiliate WRAL in Chapel Hill showed a large number of police cars on campus with their lights flashing. Sometimes, people would emerge from neighboring buildings in a single line with their arms in the air.
The video shows, shortly after 3:30 p.m., groups of students walking casually along the sidewalk.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools have received a “total evacuation” from authorities, according to a 3:40 p.m. post on the district’s website.
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper speaking about the incident:-
The extent of the situation was not clear. North Carolina “Gov. Roy Cooper” referred to it as a “shooting incident” in a post on Twitter (X).
He said he had “dedicated all necessary state resources to apprehend the shooter and protect the University of North Carolina campus”.
A university spokesperson declined to comment further on the incident.
