Robert J. O’Neil, the former US soldier famous for his role in killing Osama Bin Laden, the former leader of Al-Qaeda, has once again made headlines, but this time for a different reason.
The police in the US state of Texas announced the arrest of Robert J. O’Neil on charges of assault.
Assault charges:
47-year-old O’Neil was arrested last Wednesday and charged with a first-degree assault causing bodily harm and a third-degree assault related to general poisoning.
While the prison records only state the assault charge, O’Neil was released on a $3,500 bail.
O’Neil gained fame as a former US Navy SEAL for his involvement in the operation that targeted Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the September 11, 2001, attacks, carried out by the US military in 2011.
Details in his memoir:
In his 2017 memoir titled “The Operator,” O’Neil recounted details of the operation that targeted Bin Laden. This narrative, however, has not been confirmed or denied by Washington.
Not the first incident:
It is worth noting that O’Neil’s imprisonment is not his first, as he was previously arrested in 2016 for drunk driving in Montana. However, the charges were later dropped by prosecutors.
In 2020, O’Neil was also banned by Delta Airlines from boarding their flights due to his refusal to wear a face mask during the Covid-19 pandemic.
