The instant messaging platform WhatsApp has begun rolling out a feature that allows users to send high-quality videos.
This feature comes shortly after the introduction of the option to send high-resolution images.
Users will notice the presence of an “HD” icon when sharing high-quality videos through WhatsApp messages.
Upon clicking the icon, an additional window will appear, allowing users to choose between sending in “Standard quality” at 480 pixels or “HD quality” at 720 pixels.
Each option displays the resulting video file size, with larger sizes – as expected – accompanying higher transmission quality, this results in longer sending times and larger storage space requirements.
WhatsApp adds an “HD” label to photos and videos within conversations when sent in high resolution.
Many users rely on WhatsApp to share photos and videos with friends, family, and work teams.
A significant number of WhatsApp users have complained about the poor quality of multimedia files when sharing them through the platform.
It’s worth noting that the high-quality sending option does not transmit the original files but rather compresses them to a lesser extent compared to the default option of sending in standard quality.
WhatsApp users can still send original photo and video files with full quality by using the “Document” option, allowing files up to 2 gigabytes per file, as indicated on the official website.
To benefit from this new feature and other options recently introduced by WhatsApp, users are advised to update the application to the latest available version on either the App Store or Google Play Store.
