Syrian Suspect in Damascus Attack Dies after Throwing Himself from Building during Raid in Southern Suburb of Beirut
According to Lebanese media outlets and a security source a Syrian man suspected of being involved in an attack in Damascus’ Sayeda Zeinab neighborhood in July which resulted in the deaths of at least six people, has died after throwing himself from a building during a raid in the southern suburb of Beirut on Friday evening.
The 23-year-old man, originally from the Syrian town of Al-Tall entered Lebanon illegally and had been staying with relatives in the Hay Al-Salam area. Elements of Hezbollah reportedly conducted the raid out of concern that the suspect would initiate any act. When he learned that his location had been exposed, he jumped from the seventh floor of the building and was subsequently taken to St. George Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Two of his relatives have been detained as confirmed by the source.
Official Syrian media had previously reported that a car bomb explosion on the outskirts of Sayeda Zeinab neighborhood in southern Damascus on July 27 resulted in the deaths of six individuals.
The following day ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
