Peaceful Encounter: Shark Sighting in Dahab’s Waters Prompts Delicate Measures

In a tranquil twist of nature, the shores of Dahab have welcomed an unexpected guest – a peaceful presence amidst the azure waters. A shark, a creature often feared for its portrayal in media, made a gentle appearance near Dahab’s shores, sparking a swift response from local authorities.

Omar El-Shami, a seasoned diving instructor in Dahab, shed light on the situation, assuring that tourists partaking in the city’s diving activities, particularly in the renowned Light House area, remain unperturbed. The incident has not cast a shadow on the city’s tourism scene, which continues to flourish.

Immediate actions have been taken by the relevant authorities to prohibit swimming and snorkeling activities in the Light House zone, while diving remains permissible beneath the waves. El-Shami explained that the ban on surface water activities was implemented due to the curious behavior of sharks in the presence of swimmers, a precaution to prevent potential incidents.

Notably, the sighted shark sported a distinct white fin tip, marking it as a “Oceanic Whitetip” – a benign species that poses no threat to humans. El-Shami emphasized that the presence of sharks in the sea is natural, often witnessed during underwater excursions, and these creatures have never posed a threat to anyone.

Dahab’s reputation as a diving haven remains steadfast. The allure of the Red Sea’s vibrant marine life continues to attract tourists, despite the recent appearance of this unassuming shark along the coastline. As the evaluation of the situation unfolds, swimming activities have temporarily ceased as a precautionary measure, safeguarding both humans and marine life.
