COVID-19 Variant “Iris” Not Confirmed in Egypt Yet, Says Health Committee Member

A member of the Virus Containment Committee, Dr. Ashraf Hatem, has stated that the new COVID-19 variant called “Iris” has not been confirmed to have reached Egypt at this moment.

Speaking on the evening of Tuesday in a phone interview with the TV program “Hadret Al-Mowaten,” hosted by journalist Sayed Ali and aired on Al-Hadath Al-Youm channel, the committee member mentioned that the variant is weak and poses no significant threat, while it is widely present in England and France.

Dr. Ashraf Hatem emphasized that the symptoms of the variant include headaches, fever, but the duration of these symptoms is extremely short.

The member also highlighted ongoing research to develop vaccines that can effectively combat all variants.
