Revive and Share Precious Memories Automatically with Google Photos’ New AI-Powered Feature

The Google Photos app introduces a new way to relive, share, and organize your memories automatically using artificial intelligence through the Memories feature, which the company has launched for users in the United States.

This feature allows you to save your favorite memories or create a timeline of your memories, including events like trips, celebrations, and everyday moments with loved ones, easily.

The addition is based on the four-year-old Memories feature, which is now used by over half a billion people monthly to reminisce about significant moments from the past through a carousel at the top of the Google Photos app.

The Memories view, which is being rolled out in the United States and will be available globally in the coming months, can be found in the updated navigation menu at the bottom of the Google Photos app.

The new feature works in a manner akin to a blend of Facebook Stories and Facebook Memories, allowing you to navigate through favorite photos from months and years gone by.

The new Memories view enables users to interact more creatively with those favorite moments, specific photos can be added or removed from the Memories view, and you can even initiate the presentation of memories without relying on the app’s suggested images.

You can also rename memories instead of using a more generic title assigned by the Google Photos app, making them distinctive and reflective of the moment’s meaning and emotion.

A trial feature suggests alternative titles generated using generative AI and can be accessed through the “Help Me Title” button, if you’re dissatisfied with AI suggestions, you can modify them or guide them towards different details to include using the “Add Hint” button, Google indicates that these inputs help improve artificial intelligence over time.

However, the AI feature is currently only available for specific accounts in the United States.

In addition to creating a personalized timeline of memories, you can invite friends and family to collaborate on the memories you’ve created, adding favorite photos and videos to the collection, similar to shared albums.

Afterward, you can share the timeline, resembling a scrapbook for photos and videos, elsewhere on social media or as video clips, this suggests that Google is considering sharing video content with short video platforms like YouTube Shorts.
