From Interior Designer to Marvel Actor
Born George Raymond Stevenson on May 25, 1964, in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, Stevenson’s father served as an Air Force pilot, while his mother hailed from Ireland. He spent his childhood in Newcastle, located in the northeast of England. At the age of 27, Stevenson transitioned from a career as an interior designer to pursuing an acting education.
He began with minor roles in television series and films, including “King Arthur.” His big break came with the lead role of Titus Pullo in the TV series “Rome.” In 2008, Stevenson starred in the Marvel comic adaptation “Punisher: War Zone.”
He gained further fame through the “Thor” film series, portraying the character Volstagg in the 2011, 2013, and 2017 installments. Most recently, Stevenson appeared in popular series such as “Vikings,” “Das Boot,” and “Star Wars: Ahsoka,” as well as the 2022 film “RRR.”
Stevenson Passes Away in Italy
According to Italian newspaper Repubblica, Stevenson was admitted to Rizzoli Hospital on the island of Ischia on Saturday. The actor was in Italy filming his latest project, “Cassino on Ischia,” directed by Frank Ciota.
At the time of his admission, Stevenson’s condition was already reported to be serious. However, no further details are available at this time. His condition worsened on Sunday, ultimately resulting in his death.
