Moroccan Yassin Bono the goalkeeper for Sevilla FC is considered the preferred candidate for Real Madrid to replace Thibaut Courtois.
Real Madrid received a devastating blow after confirmation of their Belgian goalkeeper Courtois’ ACL injury in his left knee prior to the start of the new season.
Despite having other goalkeepers like Kepa and David De Gea on their radar Yassin Bono is the frontrunner to replace the absence of Courtois. Spanish newspaper “Marca” reported that negotiations have begun between Real Madrid and Sevilla for Yassin Bono.
However this does not mean that the goalkeeper will be signed at any cost since he has a contract until 2025 with a release clause of 50 million euros. There is a single obstacle in front of Real Madrid and it may not be easy to sign Yassin Bono especially considering that the Moroccan goalkeeper will participate in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for January next year.
Marca mentioned that Bono could potentially miss 13 official matches for Real Madrid, including 5 La Liga matches 4 Copa del Rey matches, and 2 Spanish Super Cup matches.
Furthermore if Morocco reaches the final of the African tournament (February 11) the goalkeeper will be absent for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
And it is worth mentioning that Bono has played 140 matches with Sevilla in all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in 58 matches.
