Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) has partnered with Derq, a leading company in AI-based road safety and traffic management solutions, to introduce 14 intelligent pedestrian crossing systems across various areas in Dubai Silicon Oasis, this collaboration aims to equip the area with advanced capabilities and enhance smart city solutions.
Derq has specifically designed the “AI-based Real-Time Detection and Communication Platform” to accurately and reliably monitor pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users.
This pioneering system seamlessly integrates with the road infrastructure to improve safety measures.
Using patented behavioral prediction models, the technology can activate flashing warning signals, road warning lights, and even traffic signal controllers in anticipation of pedestrian crossings, ensuring proactive response to potential conflicts with approaching vehicles.
Furthermore, the system collects valuable data to enhance road user awareness and speed up responses from relevant safety and traffic management authorities, the achievement follows years of intensive testing to ensure the system’s safety and effectiveness.

The new AI algorithms in the system monitor vehicles and other road users approaching pedestrian crossings, enhancing system effectiveness and timing of interactions with adjacent vehicles.
The control algorithms in the system offer the necessary flexibility to activate or disable warnings and control their duration, allowing for custom design based on specific crossing scenarios.
Alerts can be configured to remain active during a predetermined crossing time or as long as any object is detected within the pedestrian path or adjacent area, ensuring optimal safety and effective traffic management at pedestrian crossings.
The system is equipped with high-speed 5G communication and low-latency response time, providing an advanced and seamless connection that enables extensive data collection for safety coordinates and traffic data, it also facilitates remote operations, maintenance, and configuration for system operators.
In the future, the system will leverage 5G technology to efficiently send safety information and alerts to connected vehicles approaching pedestrian crossings.
