Minister of Electricity, Dr. Mohamed Shaker, expressed his gratitude towards the workers in the Egyptian electricity system for their relentless efforts in light of the government’s decision to reduce load shedding due to the decrease in gas pressure for power generation.
Minister Shaker highlighted the commitment and sacrifice of the workers in various electricity companies and sectors, emphasizing that Egypt has a world-class electricity network. However, the recent power cuts are a result of fuel and natural gas shortages, as stated by the Prime Minister during a press conference.
The Minister mentioned that since load shedding was announced, he has decided not to use his own air conditioning unit at home, demonstrating his commitment to reducing consumption. He stated, “The electricity cuts occur for me twice to three times daily.”
Appreciating the coordinated efforts between distribution companies and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, Minister Shaker praised the success of the load shedding plan in different regions. The plan, supervised by company heads and supported by network, control, and protection sector heads, aims to reduce consumption by approximately 3,000 megawatts daily until the crisis is resolved.
To ensure the smooth operation of power stations and the restoration of electricity supply, there is ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum to ensure the necessary supply of natural gas. The ultimate goal of the plan is to alleviate the current crisis.
