Heroic Feat: Untrained Passenger Miraculously Lands Aircraft After Pilot’s Sudden Incapacitation
In a remarkable incident, an untrained passenger successfully executed an emergency landing of a small aircraft in Massachusetts, after the pilot suffered a medical emergency, according to American police. The emergency landing occurred on Saturday afternoon near Martha’s Vineyard Airport in West Tisbury, Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts State Police reported that the pilot, a 79-year-old man, experienced a medical emergency as he approached his final destination. The incident resulted in a rough landing off the runway, causing the aircraft’s left wing to break in half.
Authorities did not disclose the names of the two individuals on board the aircraft but confirmed that they were transported to the hospital. The pilot was airlifted to a Boston hospital in a life-threatening condition.
The passenger, who had no prior experience in flying an aircraft, was unharmed and was released from a local hospital. The aircraft, a 2006 Piper Meridian, had departed from Westchester County in New York earlier on Saturday afternoon.
The incident is currently under investigation by the State Police and the Federal Aviation Administration.
