Manchester United confidently kicked off their pre-season schedule on Wednesday, securing a 2-0 victory against historic rivals Leeds United in Oslo. Erik ten Hag’s first summer signing, Mason Mount, demonstrated his potential in the new no.7 shirt, threatening to score before being substituted at half-time at Ullevaal Stadion.
Second-half substitutes Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill, part of United’s Under-21s, provided the goals that edged the Reds ahead. Meanwhile, Charlie Savage and Isak Hansen-Aarøen, among other Academy players, took advantage of the absence of senior players to impress Ten Hag.

First Half Highlights
The match commenced after emotional tributes were paid to Gordon McQueen, a legend of both clubs who passed away last month. The first half displayed a competitive spirit, with Manchester United maintaining the upper hand largely thanks to Mount’s performance.

The game also provided an opportunity for returning players like Alvaro Fernandez, Amad, and Hannibal to showcase their skills. Hannibal was involved in key goalscoring chances for both teams within the first 20 minutes, but neither side managed to score.
Second Half Action
Ten Hag made 11 pre-planned personnel changes at half-time, while Daniel Farke, Leeds’ newly appointed manager, introduced senior striker Patrick Bamford and former Reds winger Daniel James. The substitutions disrupted the game’s flow initially, but United’s youngsters eventually found their footing.
In the 67th minute, Emeran broke the deadlock with a skillful, first-time finish, assisted by Hansen-Aarøen. Nine minutes from time, Hugill secured United’s victory by converting Emeran’s low delivery from close range.
Leeds fans experienced disappointment when Archie Gray’s 25-yard shot hit the side netting instead of finding the back of the net. Rhys Bennett nearly added a third goal for United during injury time, but his header struck the post.
