The official account of the English Premier League has celebrated the achievements of young Egyptian, Abdullah Amr, who secured the second place globally in the electronic game “Fantasy”, the game witnessed competition among 11 million people from various countries around the world in the past season of the Premier League.
“Fantasy” is a simulation of English league matches under the Premier League that allows participants to choose a lineup of football stars for all matches, they earn points through the game’s rules based on the players’ participation and their performance in various positions.
Amr spoke about his experience, stating, “After the last round in the English league and my victory in the second place in Fantasy, I received an email from the Premier League administration congratulating me and coordinating for a video interview to celebrate my achievement.”
The twenty-year-old added, “I felt happy after the interview was published on the official account of the English league in Arabic, then they contacted me again to arrange for me to receive a special prize, which is spending several days in Britain, and attending a match in the VIP areas next season.”
Amr, a resident of Qalyubia governorate, has been participating in “Fantasy” for five years due to his passion for the English league and watching a large number of matches, his love for football and the stars of the Premier League contributed to his global success in the electronic game and his rapid rise to fame.
Amr stated, “I did not secure advanced seats in the global ranking of the game in the past years, but I gained extensive experience in how to choose the best formation for each match and the mentality of the most famous coaches, as well as the players who can be relied upon during important matches.”
Amr’s achievement has been met with mixed feelings of accomplishment and the loss of the first place by a margin of only 5 points, however, he was keen to communicate with his Azerbaijani competitor, Ali Jahangirov, and they exchanged congratulations and wished each other luck in the coming season.
Amr relied on specific players, including Norwegian Erling Haaland, consistent English player Harry Kane, his influential player Mohamed Salah, and he was interested in using more than one player from Arsenal and Manchester United. He avoided the rest of the Manchester City team due to their coach Pep Guardiola’s constant rotation among them.
Amr’s family and those around him expressed their astonishment at his long hours of engagement in the game, but they understood the matter after he secured the second place globally. He received encouragement and support from his family after his interview with the media team for the Arabic language account of the English league.
Amr believes that his immersion in the “Fantasy” game did not negatively affect his studies or social life, he excelled in the Faculty of Commerce at Menoufia University and obtained an excellence in his last academic year.
Regarding his ambition during the new “Fantasy” championship, he said, “I want to reach the top of the game, I have a greater motivation for this challenge, and I expect strong competition from all nationalities.”
