Hajj 2023 Witnesses Significant Turnout with 1.8 Million Pilgrims

The General Authority for Statistics in Saudi Arabia announced that the total number of pilgrims for the Hajj season of 1444 AH reached 1,845,045. Of these, 1,660,915 pilgrims arrived from outside Saudi Arabia through various ports, while the number of domestic pilgrims, including citizens and residents, was 184,130.

The statistical results for this year’s Hajj show that the total number of male pilgrims, both domestic and international, was 969,694, while the total number of female pilgrims was 875,351.

The Authority provided further statistics on the pilgrims coming from outside Saudi Arabia. The number of pilgrims from Arab countries was 346,214, representing 21% of the total. Pilgrims from Asian countries, excluding Arab countries, numbered 1,056,317, making up 63.5% of the total. African countries, excluding Arab countries, contributed 221,863 pilgrims, or 13.4% of the total. The number of pilgrims from Europe, America, Australia, and other unclassified countries was 36,521, or 2.1% of the total.

Regarding the modes of arrival, 1,593,271 pilgrims arrived through air ports, 60,813 arrived by land, and 6,831 arrived by sea.

The Authority also highlighted that the number of countries benefiting from the “Makkah Route” initiative reached seven, with a total of 242,272 beneficiaries. All travel procedures for these pilgrims were completed after verifying health requirements, and their luggage was transported directly from their countries to their places of residence.

The General Authority for Statistics relied on administrative records data as the primary source for the statistical indicators of the Hajj season of 1444 AH/2023 AD. The data was provided by all government and private entities involved in serving the guests of Rahman (pilgrims).

On this occasion, the President of the General Authority for Statistics, Dr. Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Dosari, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, for providing all means of comfort for the guests of Rahman. He prayed for the acceptance of the pilgrims’ Hajj and for the success of all government agencies in Saudi Arabia in providing distinguished services to the pilgrims of the Holy House of Allah.
