Controversial Dutch Seismologist’s Predictions Spark Debate and Disappear in 2023: A Year of Seismic Speculation
In a year marked by both dread and awe, Dutch seismologist Frank Hoogerbeets emerged as a controversial figure. Known for his uncanny earthquake predictions, Hoogerbeets sparked global intrigue and fear throughout 2023, culminating in his sudden withdrawal from public view as the year drew to a close.
Hoogerbeets’ fame soared after accurately predicting a devastating earthquake in Turkey in February 2023, which resulted in over 50,000 fatalities. This event catapulted him into the spotlight, with his social media accounts becoming a focal point for those seeking insights into seismic activities. His predictions, often linked to planetary movements—a theory he dubbed “planetary geometry”—were followed by millions worldwide.
His predictions included the September earthquake in Morocco, which claimed 3,000 lives, and a series of quakes that shook different parts of the globe.
However, Hoogerbeets ceased his public forecasts abruptly after November 5, despite ongoing seismic activities worldwide, including a significant quake in the Philippines in early December and another in China last week. His last appearance on social media platform “X” (formerly Twitter) was a post about the Palestinian Nakba in 1948.
In 1948 over 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly removed from their land because the Zionist Organization thought they had the right to take this land based on a 2,000 years old claim. Today the world is being forced to face the crime and consequences. Hence the apathy.

The whole world should stop and demand an end to the mass genocide of the people in Gaza. More than 10,000 civilians have been killed with no end in sight. This is not fighting terrorism. This is terrorism!
There is no point for us in doing earthquake forecasts while this…

Despite his popularity, Hoogerbeets faced criticism from the scientific community. Many experts dismissed his theories, emphasizing the lack of scientific methods to predict earthquakes and denying any planetary influence on seismic activity, apart from the Earth-Moon tidal interactions.
Before his abrupt departure, Hoogerbeets expressed deep concern about the Palestinian plight, linking his decision to cease earthquake predictions to the ongoing crisis in Gaza. He argued that predicting earthquakes seemed futile while thousands were suffering.
Hoogerbeets headed the Solar System Geometry Survey (SSGEOS), a research institution focusing on the relationships between celestial bodies and Earth’s seismic activities. While his theories were met with skepticism, his disappearance has left a void, with many wondering about the enigmatic seismologist’s whereabouts and the future of his predictions.
