Millions of dollars in the wind.. Al Ahly reaps the fruits of failed deals.. Modeste is the last of them

Al Ahly fans were shocked after the team’s exit from the African Super League on Wednesday, against Sundowns of South Africa, in the semi-finals.

Sundowns won the first leg 1-0 at home in Pretoria, before drawing 0-0 in the second leg in Cairo.

A number of Al Ahly players played poorly yesterday, led by French striker Anthony Modeste, the new team’s striker, who has failed to establish himself in recent months.

Modeste joins the list of players who have been signed by Al Ahly for millions of dollars and have not made a contribution to the Red Devils.

Foreigners who have proven their failure with Al Ahly.. Modeste is not the only one

Al Ahly’s signings on the attacking front over the past ten years have been disappointing for Al Ahly fans, with the board of directors signing a number of strikers who were not up to the expectations of the club’s fans.

Al Ahly has signed a number of players in recent years who have proven to be failures:

Hendrick: German Hendrick Helmke was the first, joining the Red in the 2014/2015 season, but was unable to participate in more than 4 matches, before leaving the team after his contract was terminated and he filed a complaint with FIFA to obtain his dues.

Peter Ibe: The second modest deal is the Nigerian striker Peter Ibe, who joined Al Ahly in the 2014/2015 season, only participating in 12 matches, scoring 3 goals during that time.

Salah El Din Saido: The third player is the Ethiopian striker Salah El Din Saido, who joined the ranks of the Red Devils in the 2015 season, after his brilliance with Wadi Degla, but failed to establish himself with the team, as he participated in 18 matches, failing to score more than 4 goals, before moving to Mouloudia Algeria.

Abdullah Al-Shami: Syrian Abdullah Al-Shami is also on the list, as he joined Al Ahly in 2017, but did not last long after appearing at a poor level, before terminating his contract and moving to Al-Masry of Port Said.

Phakamani Mahlambi: South African Phakamani Mahlambi is also the fifth player on the list of Al Ahly’s failed foreigners, who joined Al Ahly in 2018, coming from Sundowns of South Africa, to fail to establish himself and leave the Red Castle after one season.

Alio Badji: Senegalese Alio Badji is the sixth foreign player who has failed to establish himself with Al Ahly, where the Red Devils signed him in January 2020, where some believed that the deal was a mega-super, but he failed to convince Rene Weiler, the coach of the Red Castle, and his successor Pitso Mosimane, to leave on loan to Amiens France with an option to buy permanently, for the latter to activate this condition and obtain the Senegalese permanently.

Walter Boualia: While many Al Ahly fans predicted good things for striker Walter Boualia, who joined the team from El Gouna during the season before last, but failed to establish himself and left during the winter transfer window last.

Luis Miquissone: Also, the Mozambican Luis Miquissone, who joined the ranks of Al Ahly in the summer of 2021, coming from Simba of Tanzania, to participate in many matches with the team under the leadership of coach Pitso Mosimane, but did not provide the levels he was coming for to leave for Abha Saudi Arabia, but the latter brought him back again last January to the Red Castle after the modest performance he showed.

Bruno Savio: Brazilian Bruno Savio is also on the list, after joining Al Ahly during the last winter transfer window, coming from the Bolivian league for more than one and a half million dollars, but failed to adapt to the team, leading Al Ahly officials to decide to leave him, only to return again during the last summer transfer window to the same league.

Anthony Modeste: The last of the modest deals is Frenchman Anthony Modeste, who signed with Al Ahly after the end of his contract with Borussia Dortmund of Germany, in a deal that cost the Red Devils more than €2.5 million, to appear during the matches he played at a very modest level, which angered the Red audience.
