A festive Halloween gathering in Azusa took a distressing turn as gunshots and a stabbing incident caused multiple injuries this past Sunday night. Authorities from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) have been actively seeking clues and surveillance footage to aid in their investigation, turning to local residents for information.

Witnesses residing near Banewell Avenue in Azusa recounted a scene of terror around 10:30 pm, describing how the Halloween celebration abruptly transformed into a site of violence. Attendees, mainly young individuals, were caught in the harrowing events.
Vanessa Gómez, a neighbor at the location of the incident, shared, “I heard children screaming, and when everything settled down, the children were screaming and coming.” The chaos resulted in four individuals sustaining gunshot wounds, all of them described as young, although specific ages were not disclosed. Additionally, one person suffered a stabbing injury.

Christian Mendez, a relative of the stabbing victim, described the sudden turn of events, stating, “My cousin was stabbed, and I saw what happened. In 30 seconds, I heard shots and began to run.” He detailed the injuries his cousin sustained, pointing out the arm and torso wounds, along with being struck in the face with metal knuckles.
Amidst the ensuing disorder, an anonymous neighbor mentioned that an individual sought refuge in their yard, admitting to the fear of potential threats. “I thought I might have to kill someone, that’s what was going through my head, because I didn’t know if he was one of the gunmen,” the neighbor disclosed.
Residents in the area expressed astonishment at the violent turn of events during what was expected to be a peaceful Halloween celebration. One local resident stated, “It’s a scare because around here, it’s usually quiet; we don’t have these kinds of issues.”
Law enforcement assured the public that the injured individuals are expected to recover. However, the motive behind the incident and the identification of the suspect(s) remain subjects of ongoing investigation.
