Apple recently acknowledged a wireless charging issue affecting its latest iPhone models, particularly the iPhone 15, when used in BMW cars, this acknowledgment came through an internal memo sent to Apple’s authorized service centers.
According to the memo, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, as well as the Pro and Pro Max variants, all experience adverse effects when wirelessly charged using the built-in chargers in some modern BMW and Toyota Supra models.
The issue appears to disrupt the Near Field Communication (NFC) feature in iPhone 15 devices, with no clear signal from Apple about the root cause of the problem.
Apple has advised specialized technicians to attempt to reboot the NFC chip using dedicated software tools, in case these attempts fail, technicians will be required to initiate a hardware repair process for the affected iPhone devices, there have been reports indicating that Apple has replaced some of these affected devices entirely.
This problem was observed following the release of the iPhone 15 models, with customers experiencing issues where their phones enter data recovery mode with a white screen when wirelessly charging in their cars.
After a restart, the NFC chip for short-range communication ceases to function without a clear explanation.
It’s worth noting that the NFC feature is responsible for essential functions in iPhones, such as electronic payments through Apple Pay and unlocking vehicles with digital keys supported by some modern car models.
It is advisable to refrain from wirelessly charging the new iPhone 15 devices using the car’s built-in chargers until an investigation into the issue’s causes is completed and a solution is found.
