Anticipation Skyrockets: Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ Film Gathers Over $100M Before Premiere

In an unprecedented show of anticipation, advance ticket sales for Taylor Swift’s film, based on the first part of her musical tour, have surpassed the $100 million mark globally. This was announced by AMC on Thursday, marking a record for concert-based feature films even before its official screening.

Scheduled to be showcased in 8,500 cinemas across 100 countries, the film, titled “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” will begin its screenings on October 13th. Before its official release, the film has already clinched the title of the highest-grossing among musical concert movies, dethroning the previous record held by “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” which grossed $99 million in 2011. Michael Jackson’s “This Is It,” even with a whopping $261 million, doesn’t fall into the same category, as it primarily documented preparations rather than the concert itself.

Originally planned to be launched exclusively in the US, Swift ultimately decided to make it a global phenomenon. The tour is set to continue next year with numerous shows planned across South America, Europe, the US, and Canada.

An AMC spokesperson clarified to the “France Press” agency that the advanced booking revenue, amounting to $100 million, pertains to all cinema houses screening the film, including Canada’s Cineplex and Mexico’s Cinepolis.

The all-time record for weekend box office collections during October in North America is held by the 2019 film “Joker” with $96 million. Taylor Swift’s film might surpass this, setting a new precedent for musical concerts showcased in cinemas.

“Exhibit Relations” company’s Jeff Bock forecasts that the film could gross over $100 million between October 13th and 15th in North America alone. The film, lasting 2 hours and 48 minutes, captures scenes from three of Swift’s concerts at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, near Los Angeles, from early August.

The colossal “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” currently comprises 146 concerts. With an estimated revenue of $13 million per concert, the tour’s total earnings are projected to approach a staggering $1.9 billion. Such a feat of surpassing the symbolic billion-dollar threshold has never been achieved by any artist or band.

In a related update, following Swift’s film announcement, AMC revealed that superstar Beyoncé will release a documentary inspired by her “World Renaissance Tour” in cinemas on December 1st.
