Fitbit Charge 6: A New Fitness Tracker with Google Smarts

Fitbit announced the Charge 6 fitness tracker a week before Google launched the next-generation Pixel Watch, the launch of the health-focused wearable coincides with Fitbit’s refreshed app.

The tracker is described as the only fitness tracker with Google Smarts. The Fitbit Charge 6 is the successor to the 2021 device called Charge 5.

The company says it designed the Charge 6 to be slim and discreet, unlike the clear smartwatch screen. Fitbit also brought back the side button to interact with the interface. As with all fitness-focused wearables, the Charge 6 is water-resistant to 50 meters.

The Charge 6 features a small 1.04-inch screen made of Gorilla Glass, aluminum, and resin, in terms of sensors, the Charge 6 is equipped with a heart rate monitor, accelerometer, SpO2 monitoring sensors, and a temperature sensor.

There is NFC for using Google Wallet and GPS and GLONASS for Google Maps.

The Charge 6 also offers ECG readings to monitor your heart health and look for irregular rhythms and electrodermal activity, which measures stress by detecting changes in your skin’s sweat levels.

You can use the Charge 6 to sync heart rate data during workouts if you have Peloton or NordicTrack gym equipment.

The company says the Charge 6 features readings that are 60 percent more accurate during vigorous activities compared to the Charge 5 tracker.

You must have a Google account to use the Charge 6, as well as the Fitbit app, the Charge 6 is compatible with Android and iOS users.

The Charge 6 features built-in Google Maps and Google Wallet apps, meaning you can use the tracker to get turn-by-turn directions directly on your wrist or use the Charge 6 to pay with Google Wallet, you can also control YouTube Music playback directly from the Charge 6.

The advertised battery life is up to seven days, as long as you don’t use a lot of sensors, the company’s app encourages you to track your stats at all times to get the most out of the fitness tracker’s capabilities and charge the device on a regular basis to do so.

The Charge 6 is available for pre-order now for $160 and comes in a variety of colors, including white and orange, there’s also a variety of new bands available.
