The incident occurred at Maruata Beach in Mexico, on Friday afternoon.

According to the British newspaper, The Daily Mail, a woman named Elvia de Jesus (33 years old) was struck by a direct lightning strike after she came out of the water with her husband. Less than a second later, lightning struck a beach vendor named Felix Andres.

The shocking video shows the moment the couple rushed to take shelter from the thunder and lightning. The husband managed to reach a wooden hut on the beach, while de Jesus was trying to get away from the water when she was struck by lightning, knocking her to the ground.

Less than a second later, lightning struck Andres, who was running in front of the woman.

According to the newspaper, de Jesus’ husband performed CPR on her, but paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. Andres was taken to hospital, but he died later from his injuries.

The newspaper quoted the National Weather Service of the United States as saying that direct lightning strikes occur in open areas, and although they are not the most common, they are the deadliest for victims.

The National Weather Service of the United States explains: “In most direct strikes, part of the electrical current travels along the surface of the skin and directly above it (called a flash of light), and part of the current travels through the body from the inside, injuring the heart, blood vessels, or the victim’s nervous system.”
