Cairo, Egypt – September 20, 2023 – Egyptian security forces have arrested two suspects in the murder of an Omani diplomat in Cairo, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday.
The suspects, a cleaning lady and a driver, were arrested on charges of premeditated murder and robbery. They are accused of stabbing the diplomat to death in his apartment in Giza on September 15, then stealing 14 mobile phones, seven watches, a camera, a safe, and a large sum of money.
The Ministry of Interior said that the suspects were known to the victim, and that they had planned the murder in order to steal from him.

The diplomat, who was not identified, had been working at the Omani Embassy in Cairo for several years. He was found dead in his apartment on September 16, after his employer reported him missing.
The suspects were arrested after a joint investigation by the Giza Police Department and the Egyptian General Security Directorate. They have confessed to the crime, and they are now being held in custody pending trial.
The Omani Embassy in Cairo issued a statement condemning the murder and expressing its condolences to the victim’s family. The embassy also thanked the Egyptian authorities for their swift action in arresting the suspects.
The case has drawn attention to the issue of security for diplomats in Cairo. In recent years, there have been a number of attacks on foreign diplomats in the Egyptian capital.
