Borussia Dortmund, the German club, is set to face Paris Saint-Germain, the French champions, tomorrow, Tuesday, kicking off their journey in the UEFA Champions League without any significant absences.
This comes after the team showed a convincing performance for the first time this season in the Bundesliga.
Dortmund gained a boost of confidence following their thrilling 4-2 victory over Freiburg last Saturday, just before their tough encounter with PSG in a group that also includes AC Milan from Italy and Newcastle United from England.
Sebastian Kehl, the sporting director of Dortmund, stated on Monday, “The three points in Freiburg were good for us and gave us some strength for what we will face in Paris.”
Kehl acknowledges that facing PSG is a tough start for his team in the Champions League, despite the departures of Lionel Messi and Neymar from the French league champions.
However, he warned that the French club still aspires to win the continental title.
He remarked, “Paris undoubtedly anticipates greater achievements, but the Champions League represents an entirely distinct arena.
This squad embarked with the ambition of securing championships, which is why they poured an additional 350 million euros (373 million dollars) into it.”
Kehl confirmed that the new striker, Niklas Füllkrug, has recovered from his injury and is ready to start against PSG, adding, “He has certainly taken another step, and it’s good that we have many options in this position.
The coach will make the right decision.”
